Five miles south of Deadwood
Gilded Mountain is a small development in the national forest a few miles south of Deadwood, close enough that the drive into town is short and far enough that walking it is not a thing anyone does twice. Most trips from here are the same shape: into Deadwood in the evening, back out again late.
Everything is on the loop
The cabins here are arranged in a loop around the clubhouse, which is pleasant to stay in and confusing to be collected from. "The third one past the clubhouse" is not an address, and at night one cabin on a loop looks much like the next. It is the most common reason a pickup here goes wrong.
Give us the street number when you book and none of that matters. Northern Hills Taxi has been round this loop before.
Reunion-sized houses
These are three- to six-bedroom houses, so the people renting them are usually a family reunion or a work trip, not two people with a car. Everyone arrives from somewhere different. Nobody wants to be the one who skips the wine because they are driving back up to Gilded Mountain afterwards.

Mickelson Trail drop-offs and pickups
The 109-mile Mickelson Trail runs through this part of the forest, and the good way to ride it is in one direction. That only works if something is waiting at the other end. Northern Hills Taxi will drop you at one trailhead and collect you from another, so you are not doubling back to where you left a car.

Airport runs
Rapid City Regional (RAP) is about an hour from Deadwood, and Gilded Mountain adds a few miles to that. Booked ahead we meet the flight and run people and luggage straight to the cabin; on the way home we time the departure runs to the flight.
